Will Eurostar link to France continue?

Kentish Express Ashford & District - - Points Of View -

Last December I wrote to the Kentish Express concerning the upgrade of the signalling at Ashford International for the new Eurostar trains.

I therefore read with interest Chris Price’s Kent Business Update (KE, Febuary 9) which included news on the upgrade.

Ashford MP Damian Green, Ashford Borough Council and Cllr Matthew Balfour from KCC all seemed very positive about the continuation of the passenger link between the UK and France.

But one voice was conspicuously absent, that of Eurostar, who previously stated that it may not be possible to operate either from an economic or practical standpoint, post Brexit.

Eurostar should know, they have been running the service for more than 20 years. Therefore, should someone not ask the question, if not Eurostar, then who? 2019 is not far off, if Eurostar do pull out, then who will take over?

If the link is so vital to the economy in London and the South East, should not this question be asked now, pre-Brexit, not post? John Walker Harvey Road, Willesborough.
