An Ashford wedding venue director is set to take part in a charity ride with a difference this Sunday.

Libby Lawson, 46, managing director of St Augustine’s Priory, in Bilsington, is an experienced horse rider and former Master of the East Kent Hunt.

But it will be the first time the mum of three has competed sidesaddle.

She said: “I only started lessons about a month ago.

“It seemed like a good idea at the time, all very elegant and ladylike, and for such a good cause.

“Now I’m beginning to think I must be mad.

“I watched the first of these side-saddle dashes at Whitfield point-to-point in Northamptonshire last month and they went like stink!”

The Sue Webb Memorial SideSaddle Dash is organised by the Side Saddle Association and all competing riders raise money for the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance.

The event takes place at 1pm, and is the opening feature of the afternoon’s racing at the Southdown and Eridge point-to-point meeting in Godstone, Surrey.
