Main road closed for summer

Kentish Express Ashford & District - - Blaze -

A busy road in Ashford that is home to two of the town’s biggest businesses and a sports stadium will be closed for 12 weeks over the summer holidays.

Kent County Council (KCC) will be closing the A2070 Kennington Road from Monday, June 19 to Sunday, September 10 to enable the road to be widened at a tight corner.

KCC will work with all the businesses affected by the closure.

The diversion route will be the M20 between junction 10 and junction 9 for motorway traffic.

Non-motorway traffic is likely to be sent through Ashford town centre.

The road contains the Batchelors food factory and the neighbouring Givaudan perfume plant, and the Julie Rose athletics stadium.

More details on the proposed diversions will be issued nearer the time.

KCC will be liaising with bus companies, schools and busi- nesses to make sure as little inconvenience as possible is caused by the lengthy closure.
