By George – that’s a great idea. An Ashford pub has joined forces with 23 others across the UK to try to set a new record on St George’s Day.

The Pheasant in Trinity Road, is part of the Generous George family of pubs, and over the celebration weekend of April 23, the chain plans to set a record for the largest gathering of people named George across its sites.

The pub is calling on Georges, Georgies, Georginas, Georgias, and even Mr and Mrs Georges, to attend a family fun day.

Manager Trevor Fox said: “Last year, 13 Generous George pubs joined together to bring 172 different Georges together to mark the day. We didn’t open until November, and we’re really excited to be able to take part in this year’s bid. Each adult George showing proof of their name that day will get a pint, glass of wine or soft drink of their choice, while young Georges will get a free ice cream.”
