Ja­son Gille­spie says he can teach even Dar­ren Stevens and Mitch Clay­don a thing or two dur­ing his in­terim spell as as­sis­tant coach. The for­mer Aus­tralia Test fast­bowler ar­rived at Can­ter­bury last week for a 10-week stay and im­me­di­ately set his sights on help­ing the play­ing staff get bet­ter. De­spite Stevens turn­ing 41 on April 30 – 11 days af­ter Gille­spie’s 42nd birth­day – the for­mer York­shire coach in­sists even the all-rounder can ben­e­fit from his ad­vice as much as the crop of young­sters seek­ing to make their mark in the game. Gille­spie said: “I played with Mitchy are good friends. He was pretty much the same then as he is now – loud and ob­nox­ious – but he’s bril­liant. It’s been nice to be back in touch with him.
