Corporate plan ‘on track for wealth’
Council chiefs say they are making big progress with their corporate plan to boost business, economic growth and the quality of life for residents.
Ashford Borough Council adopted the plan in October 2015, with four main areas of focus including Enterprising Ashford, Living Ashford, Active & Creative Ashford, and Attractive Ashford.
Now, two years on, they say that major infrastructure and development projects are going well, with the new town centre college set to open in September and the Commercial Quarter currently under construction.
Meanwhile, work on the town centre cinema and hotel complex is set to start in the coming months, and works at Chilmington Green and at the Designer Outlet are also in the pipeline.
Council leader Cllr Gerry Clarkson said: “At the midway point in our Corporate Plan it is a good time to take stock of progress and set new challenges with a clear sense of direction for the future.
“The range and scale of achievement of our Big Eight projects shows what a combination of strong political direction and officers’ endeavour can achieve.
“We believe in action, not words, and as we can all clearly see, great progress has been made over the last two years.
“There is still more we can do, but I hope residents, businesses, and visitors can take great heart from the many projects and exciting developments coming forward that will all have a positive effect on future economic prosperity.”
