Villagers bid farewell to ‘exceptional’ postie
A well-loved postman who covered Aldington and Bonnington was celebrated by residents at a retirement bash.
Martin Beagley, 59, finished his 17-year postal round in style with a party at Aldington Village Hall, organised by the village community.
Coordinator Shirley Boards said: “It’s a well deserved retirement to put his feet up. I did it because he has been an exceptional person.
“He kept his eyes on the community. He knew the people so well and he always put himself out.”
Mr Beagley and his wife met in the village as a result of his rounds, and they are now set to move out of the county in his retirement.
After the event, he posted on the village Facebook group to thank residents, saying: “I’d like to thank you all for my gathering in the village hall. It was fantastic to see so many friends there.
“I am going to miss all our chats and coffees, and especially my four-legged customers. I wish all a happy and healthy summer and will keep you updated on my retirement through here. Again thank you for your support.”
