Ashford MP Damian Green (Con) says the General Election offers a “one-off chance” to strengthen the UK’s hand in its Brexit negotiations.

The Work and Pensions Secretary said that with vital talks coming up with the EU, it was important to give the Prime Minister a strong mandate.

“With the vital Brexit negotiations coming up, every vote cast for Theresa May and the Conserv- atives will strengthen our hand. We have a one-off chance to hold an election while the EU agrees its negotiating position,” he said.

“I am delighted by the chance to put myself forward again to be the Conservative candidate for Ashford.

“At a time when the area is enjoying strong economic growth and the development of new education, transport and leisure facilities, it is more impor-

Theresa May has gambled that the British voters will give her the endorsement she says she needs to get the best deal for the UK from leaving the EU

tant than ever that we have a strong and stable government.”

He added that the choice was between “strong government led by Theresa May, which I will be proud to support, or a weak and unstable coalition led by Jeremy Corbyn, propped up by Nicola Sturgeon and the Liberal Democrats.”

Mr Green won his seat in 2015 with a 19,296 majority – one of the largest in the county.
