Spring-clean has sprung a few surprises
This week we will be moving into our new office in Park Mall, leaving our North Street office which has been our home for more than 20 years.
The move has coincided with the arrival of spring, and in time honoured fashion we have started our very own spring clean, which has turned up some surprising artefacts from the bygone days of local journalism.
It really is quite remarkable how much junk can accumulate, gathering dust in drawers and filing cabinets.
We have found mountains of old photograph files, long redundant due to the arrival of our digital archives.
Some favourites include a photograph of hovercraft racing, and another of a gentleman called Alan Hickmott on a bicycle being pulled by huskies.
We also found a rather more racy collection of snaps, which show scantily clad young women at the pumps of a petrol station, taken in 1966 –the year England won the World Cup. We are baffled as to what the event was and wonder if the young women pictured are still living in Ashford.
