County just a rubbish dump

Kentish Express Ashford & District - - Points Of View -

With reference to your article ‘Fly-tipping blight takes a new turn – now it’s lorry trailers’ (KE, April 13), fly-tipping should be punished with a large fine to deter others. Those who do it have no respect for the planet that we live in. Do they have children? If they do have, don’t they think of their own little ones?

As regards the tyre lorrytipping those lorries are so old that it is cheaper for them to abandon them than pay fines.

If these lorries come from across the Channel they must have been filmed by a few CCTV cameras on the way. It looks like Ashford and the surrounding areas are becoming the dumping ground for this kind of thing.

I am part of a walking group and when we walk through the woods it puzzles us all that in the middle of nowhere we see mattressess, lounge chairs and so on dumped quite far away from any roads. How does it get there? Because these are big items it must take at least two people to do that dumping. You can’t just fly it over from the road.

Are we now a nation of rubbish dumpers? Let’s hope not. Mrs Delfina Brooks, Ulley Road, Kennington
