Ashford Scouts have put out a call to action after the organisation was forced to put more than 100 youngsters on its waiting lists due to a lack of volunteer leaders.

The district has more than 1,000 members aged six to 18 and is looking to grow but is facing a challenge due to lack of Scout helpers and leaders.

Jon Rose, District Commissioner for development, said: “As Ashford is continuing to grow we need more leaders and helpers. I see recruiting adults as our biggest challenge both today and for the future.

“The rewards of being a leader are fantastic, for example seeing a young person try a new skill or physical challenge and succeeding is great.

“We offer a whole range of volunteering opportunities which are flexible and can be made to fit in with lifestyles that are themselves variable.

“A lot of people think you have to have some previous experience or special skills to become a leader.

“In fact, all you need is a sense of fun and adventure and you will be provided with any training you need – for free.”

Anyone interested in volunteering with Ashford District Scouts can apply using the form at www.adscouts.org. uk or via scouts.org.uk/join.
