Gatehouse sold before road is built
A historic gatehouse at the entrance to the former Godinton Manor estate has been sold.
East Lodge in Chart Road was built in 1868 and was placed on the market in August last year with estate agents Hobbs Parker.
The grade II listed house has three bedrooms upstairs, with a kitchen, sitting room and dining room on the ground floor. The property is believed to have fetched around £325,000.
It will lose garden space when the A28 is widened into a dual carriageway, with the exterior wall set to be knocked down and moved a metre closer to the property.
The work on road is scheduled to start in 2018 and will take a year. In March Kent County Council announced that Jackson Civil Engineering had secured the £32m contract.
