Ray enthused by Brands showing
Bradley Ray expressed his delight at Brands Hatch on Monday after celebrating his best result so far in his rookie British Superbikes campaign.
The 19-year-old from Lydd, riding for the Buildbase Suzuki team, finished eighth in his second MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship outing on the Indy circuit, after his bike had to be rebuilt
‘I am still learning about Superbikes. . . but to finish ahead of Guintoli and Hopkins was unbelievable’
following a crash in the buildup.
Ray was 12th in the first race of the day but a brilliant performance from the teenager saw him involved in a battle with experienced rivals John Hopkins, Sylvain Guintoli and Michael Laverty, in only his fourth race in the class.
Ray who posted a DNF and 28th place at Donington Park a fortnight earlier on his debut for his new team, admitted he had learned a lot from that opening weekend.
Speaking to the BSB website, he said “I left Brands happy, that’s for sure.
“To have gone into the weekend thinking I would be top-10 in the races was never in my mind but I wanted to build on Donington and come away with points. We showed we had the pace for the top-five and I was surprised with my 45.3 lap on Saturday!”
He added: “I felt good and it was a shame that we had the crashes and had to rebuild the bike but for race day it was back to how it felt in free practice.
“I am still learning about Superbikes and riding the new Suzuki all the time but for me, to finish in front of Guintoli and Hopkins was unbelievable as I have watched them race so many times on the world stage.”
Looking ahead, Ray said: “My goal now for Oulton Park is to keep improving and not put any pressure on myself and then the results will come.”
The next meeting takes place at the Cheshire circuit on May Bank Holiday weekend – April 29-30 and May 1.
