Water main burst in town centre
Engineers were called to the Lower High Street after a water main burst and flooded the ring road.
South East Water sent the workmen to cordon off the leak, which was caused by a six-inch hole in the pipes outside The County Hotel pub on Friday morning.
Distribution manager Mark Rice said: “On arrival our technician found that there was a leak on a six-inch diameter water main and we sent our specialist team to carry out a repair.
“Unfortunately, emergencies like this do happen from time to time. We understand that the water leak did not affect supply to our customers and the repairs were complete later in the afternoon.”
Leaks can be reported to the company by calling 0333 000 3330.
