Council’s measures to help homeless

Ashford Borough Council says it has a range of proactive measures such as a leasing scheme of 74 properties from private owners which can be used for homeless applicants.

The scheme works alongside the council’s short-stay bed and breakfast accommodation in Christchurch Road.

It also has its own lettings agency to help homeless applicants find properties in the private housing sector.

There is also a deposit bond scheme which helps rough sleepers who may not be able to pay a large rent deposit up front.

The council also says it organises a monthly group made up of police, churches, Porchlight and other charities, and provides funds to Porchlight to engage with rough sleepers in the town.
