Club donates £5k to baby unit

-

A nightclub in Ashford has made a generous donation to support care for babies in the town’s hospital.

Cameo have given £5,433 to the William Harvey for the hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit.

Fred Shingler, general manager of the Station Road venue, presented the cheque from its company’s Echo Trust charity to buy a transporter incubator and baby bath for the unit.

Mr Shingler said: “The donation is a way we can give something back. We hold regular collections at the club and our customers are always generous.

“We nominated the hospital to benefit because of the amazing care and support it provides to local families.”

Louise Ruiz, matron for neonatal services, said: “We are so grateful to Mr Shingler, Cameo and the Echo Trust for their generosity.

“The transporter incubator will be used to move infants in a self-contained mobile unit. This reduces radiant heat loss from the baby during the process.

“The baby bath will provide new parents with an opportunity to bath their newborns on the unit and close to the incubator.”

Cameo is part of The Deltic Group which has raised more than £2.5 million to grant awards to children’s charities since 2002, when the Echo Trust was set up.
