Angling

Kentish Express Ashford & District - - Sport All The Week’s Action... - By Wesley Shrubsole

Our local venues are producing some stunning fish at the moment so get out there and give it a go! On the canal at Hythe, a stunning 33lb 8oz common carp graced the net for Stuart Wells and was one of two large carp from the venue this week. For the cost of a day ticket it must be worth a go. From Princess Parade, Dave WoodBrignall landed a large 42cm plaice for a personal best – and that will taste good! The Medway Rollers Sea Angling Club were down at Hythe for their latest match and top rod was Alan Underdown with 2.340kg. Tony Flack was second (1.840kg) and Lionel Watson third (1.820kg). Dogfish, plaice and pouting were caught. The DAA Seniors felt the full force of the cold easterly wind at their latest match on the wall at Littlestone. John Wigstone was the winner with a catch-and-release length of 177cm. Second spot went to Mick Reynolds with 153cm and Steve Foster was third (129cm). Series leader with 1,699cm is Ashford angler John Smith. Ashley Brown fished a competition at Herne Bay and landed a stunning stingray of 65lbs! The fish has a tail that can cause major injury, as it is like a jagged-edged sword. Please take care with these fish and if in any doubt, just cut the line and let it swim away. No picture is worth your life. If you have any news or views on our sport, contact me at wesleyshrubsole@ gmail.com
