Alford helps humble champions

County League

-

Top scorer Riley Alford hit his 39th goal of the season as Willesborough Athletic confirmed the runners-up spot in Division 2 C&E by beating champions Cuxton 91 2-1. Dion Bepe was their other scorer.

Alford netted six as Willes beat Ashford 12-1 last week and become the first team through to the Invitation Cup semi-finals.

Ashley Boyd and Aurin Johnson scored for New Romney Reserves as they went down 3-2 against Faversham United in the Ashford Charity Trophy final at Homelands last Thursday.

The teams meet again in the Weald of Kent Junior Charity Cup final at Lydd on Bank Holiday Monday (11.30am).

United, who lost in last year’s 10-goal final against Lydd Town Reserves have replaced Bromley Green, who have withdrawn.

Kennington were left without a Premier Division game after opponents Guru Nanak cried off just an hour before kick-off, claiming they were unable to raise a side.
