A representative from Ashford Museum spoke about a new scheme launched to attract more young visitors to the venue and others across Kent.

Bob Shrubb from the museum in the Churchyard and Roz Meredith of Maidstone Museum represented their sites at the annual conference of the Association of Independent Museums, at The Historic Dockyard in Chatham last month.

They talked about the Wheels of Time which has been developed to encourage children to visit the county’s museums and heritage sites.

The initiative is a badge collecting scheme encouraging the exploration of 25 Kent venues for those aged five to 11.

When children visit any of the venues involved they are given a different badge, showing the site’s logo or related picture. A map featuring the Wheels of Time mascot, Roamin’ Rex, guides children to all the sites.

The pair explained at the event how Wheels of Time has been developed and how it might be used as a model for others.
