Ca­reers were on the timetable for stu­dents at Home­wood School and Sixth Form Cen­tre.

Em­ploy­ers vis­ited the Ash­ford Road school to talk to sixth-for­m­ers about the op­por­tu­ni­ties open to them in the world of work.

Speak­ers came from a va­ri­ety of in­dus­tries in­clud­ing con­struc­tion and engi­neer­ing and Liz Thorne, chief ex­ec­u­tive of Ten­ter­den and District Day Cen­tre, ad­dressed stu­dents on health­care.

Charli Luke, man­ager of the Lit­tle Sil­ver Ho­tel in St Michael’s, spoke of op­por­tu­ni­ties in the hospi­tal­ity in­dus­try. Ca­reers in graphic de­sign and fi­nan­cial ser­vices were also cov­ered in the sem­i­nar.

It was ar­ranged by Home­wood’s ca­reers co-or­di­na­tor Caro­line Court­land-Smith, who said: “The del­e­gates talked about the wide rang­ing path­ways into var­i­ous ca­reers and it en­abled net­work­ing op­por­tu­ni­ties for the busi­nesses in­volved, the school and sixth-form stu­dents re­gard­ing work place­ments, ap­pren­tice­ships and fur­ther op­por­tu­ni­ties.”
