Deep hole opens up in paving

A deep hole opened up in Ash­ford town cen­tre ear­lier this week.

The crater in North Street is be­lieved to have ap­peared on Mon­day morn­ing.

The hole is on a cob­bled pedes­trian path in the town cen­tre and gaps in the paving show a deep hole be­neath the sur­face.

The brick­work ap­pears to have caved in on it­self, but the cause is not known.

Kent County Council’s High­ways team coned off the area on Mon­day as a safety pre­cau­tion and are send­ing work­men to make it safe as a main­te­nance pri­or­ity.
