Police day is riot of fun
Modern techniques and nostalgia went hand in hand at the Kent Police open day on Sunday. Youngsters were able sit on a police motorbike, jump into a search and rescue boat, try sitting in the cockpit of a police spotter plane and even clamber aboard a police helicopter. Others tried getting behind a police sniper rifle or hoisted a riot shield, while some even found out what it was like to be behind bars. More traditional pursuits included face-painting and eating ice cream. Thousands of people attended the open day at the Kent Police Training School in Coverdale Avenue, Maidstone, close to the county headquarters. The constabulary is this year celebrating 160 years of policing in the county.
