Thomas joins coach­ing staff

For­mer Som­er­set fast bowler Al­fonso Thomas has joined the Kent coach­ing staff in the buildup to the NatWest T20 Blast, which gets un­der way on Sun­day. The 40-year-old South African in­ter­na­tional played in county cricket and fran­chise T20 cricket in sev­eral coun­tries dur­ing a 17-year pro­fes­sional ca­reer be­fore call­ing it a day in 2015. He will work as a con­sul­tant along­side head coach Matt Walker to help the Spit­fires pre­pare for the tour­na­ment, which they start against Es­sex Ea­gles at Beck­en­ham (3pm). Walker said: “Al­fonso brings a wealth of ex­pe­ri­ence in the for­mat from his play­ing days in Eng­land, Aus­tralia, Bangladesh, In­dia and South Africa.”
