Women’s team chalk up first win

Mer­sham Women and Girls sealed their first ever vic­tory, beat­ing Bex­ley in an eight-aside game at Flood Street. Lau­ren Ut­t­ley (26) hit the win­ning runs in a stand of 19 with Jess Bright as the home side chased down a tar­get of 104. Opener Rachel Stevens (25 re­tired not out), Ni­cole Jor­dan (15) and Scar­let Timms (14) all bat­ted well. Timms, Ut­t­ley and cap­tain Lot­tie McVit­tie ear­lier claimed a wicket each in Bex­ley’s to­tal of 103. The two teams met again on Sun­day in the re­turn fix­ture – with Mer­sham (40-6) los­ing by 89 runs after Bex­ley to­talled 129-2. The team, spon­sored by How­dens Ash­ford South, are seek­ing new play­ers of all ages. Train­ing takes place on Mon­day evenings be­tween 6pm and 7.30pm, and all new­com­ers are wel­come.
