Women’s team chalk up first win
Mersham Women and Girls sealed their first ever victory, beating Bexley in an eight-aside game at Flood Street. Lauren Uttley (26) hit the winning runs in a stand of 19 with Jess Bright as the home side chased down a target of 104. Opener Rachel Stevens (25 retired not out), Nicole Jordan (15) and Scarlet Timms (14) all batted well. Timms, Uttley and captain Lottie McVittie earlier claimed a wicket each in Bexley’s total of 103. The two teams met again on Sunday in the return fixture – with Mersham (40-6) losing by 89 runs after Bexley totalled 129-2. The team, sponsored by Howdens Ashford South, are seeking new players of all ages. Training takes place on Monday evenings between 6pm and 7.30pm, and all newcomers are welcome.
