Invasion threat stalled bypass work

Kentish Express Ashford & District - - Points of view -

With reference to last week’s Remember When column, about the construction of the Ashford bypass/M20, it was built before the last war – but owing to the threat of invasion the ends were never joined up. Perhaps in your archives there is a photo taken by a German plane during the war showing it in isolation. As you point out, it wasn’t until 1957 that it was brought up to required standards and opened up completely. Christopher Wood Shoreham Lane, St Michaels, Tenterden
