Grid­lock will scup­per job hopes

Your ar­ti­cle ‘Jobs, shops and homes’ (KE, July 13) makes scant ref­er­ence to the other es­sen­tial for a thriv­ing en­ter­tain­ment area – park­ing.

I have come up with some con­ser­va­tive guessti­mates for cars com­ing into the town and have ar­rived at a fig­ure of 1,225 against your fig­ure for new spa­ces of 282 – as­sum­ing that Aldi and the Chaple Down Brew­ery will have on site park­ing. This does not take into ac­count the ex­tra 110 flats to be built on the Panorama site.

The ex­ten­sion to the South car park can be dis­counted for cin­ema-go­ers and ho­tel users as peo­ple will not walk that far – as­sum­ing they have en­dured
