Youngsters from rival Cub Scout groups across Ashford had their shooting boots on at their football tournament. Organisers of the Ashford and District Cub Scout five-a-side tournament said 14 teams took part, with some close-fought games at Willesborough Cricket Club. The matches were overseen by volunteer referees Jeff Ross and Keith White and the winning team was Kennington A. Meanwhile, the Ruckinge and Hamstreet sides both enjoyed success, finishing in second and fourth place respectively, while the Great Chart A team finished third. Willesborough Scout Group spokesman Derek Wildish said: “Everybody was looking forward to a good competition, and a few teams did stand out. “We would like to extend our thanks to Jeff Ross and Keith White who gave up their time to officiate, and also to Willesborough Cricket Club for the use of their facilities. “Finally and most importantly we’d like to thank the youngsters who came and took part, as that is what it is all about.”
