Stour nature trails – for free
A series of free guided walks are taking place in Ashford throughout July, August and September. The events are being run by the Kentish Stour Countryside Partnership’s (KSCP) ‘Naturally Active For Life’ programme, funded by Kent Sport. KSCP’s Martin Thomas said: “It’s a stress-free introduction to walking and cycling, and along the way you get to know new people and learn about the history and wildlife of the area.” Conservation volunteering is also encouraged. The walks usually begin in the town centre and explore different parts of the River Stour, and are led by experts in local wildlife and history. Each walk lasts approximately two hours. The first is next Wednesday to Little Burton, leaving from the Civic Centre at 10am. The second is on Wednesday, August 16, leaving Asda at 10am for the South Willesborough Nature Trail walk. The final walk is on Saturday, September 30 starting from the Hubert Fountain in Victoria Park at 10am to follow the River Great Stour to Buxford Meadow past Watercress Fields and Singleton Lake.
