Stour na­ture trails – for free

A se­ries of free guided walks are tak­ing place in Ash­ford through­out July, Au­gust and Septem­ber. The events are be­ing run by the Ken­tish Stour Coun­try­side Part­ner­ship’s (KSCP) ‘Nat­u­rally Ac­tive For Life’ pro­gramme, funded by Kent Sport. KSCP’s Martin Thomas said: “It’s a stress-free in­tro­duc­tion to walk­ing and cy­cling, and along the way you get to know new peo­ple and learn about the his­tory and wildlife of the area.” Con­ser­va­tion vol­un­teer­ing is also en­cour­aged. The walks usu­ally be­gin in the town cen­tre and ex­plore dif­fer­ent parts of the River Stour, and are led by ex­perts in lo­cal wildlife and his­tory. Each walk lasts ap­prox­i­mately two hours. The first is next Wed­nes­day to Lit­tle Bur­ton, leav­ing from the Civic Cen­tre at 10am. The se­cond is on Wed­nes­day, Au­gust 16, leav­ing Asda at 10am for the South Willes­bor­ough Na­ture Trail walk. The fi­nal walk is on Satur­day, Septem­ber 30 start­ing from the Hu­bert Foun­tain in Vic­to­ria Park at 10am to fol­low the River Great Stour to Bux­ford Meadow past Water­cress Fields and Sin­gle­ton Lake.
