Help put food on people’s tables
The Salvation Army in Ashford is appealing for tinned food to help needy people in the area.
The branch helps put together food parcels to distribute in the community but workers say their cupboards are getting bare.
Now they are calling on Ashford residents to donate nonperishable items to the centre over the summer holidays.
Retired Envoy Valerie Barkley CSM, who has been involved with the Salvation Army since she was 27, said: “We’ve got some empty shelves. It gets quite scary when it get’s this low.
“The last time was just after Easter.”
The branch, which can help feed up to 20 groups a week, has lots of pasta to feed people but needs pasta sauces.
In particular, the volunteers are asking for tinned meat and fish, soup, beans, tinned spaghetti, tinned vegetables and fruit.
Food donations should be delivered to the Salvation Army Hall at 115 Cudworth Road in South Willesborough.
The best times for delivery are Monday or Friday mornings.
Please call 07724 146363 to arrange an appointment to make a donation.
