Bid to turn offices into ‘hostel’
Plans to convert a town centre office block into a “hostel” have been submitted to the borough council.
Tufton House in Tufton Street has previously been used as a college building and also as a home for charity Age UK.
But the building’s owner has submitted an application to turn it into a block of 36 flats.
The new building has been described as providing a “hostel” with self-contained units and plans show that most are single rooms which combine kitchen, bedroom and dining facilities, along with a small separate shower room.
It is unclear who will be using the hostel if it is given planning permission by Ashford Borough Council.
The application has been made by a Mr M.S Matharu who represents Tufton House Ltd and agent MD Development.
Mr Matharu has been contacted for comment but had not responded by press time.
