Celebration marks book group’s birthday

Ashford Library has celebrated the first birthday of its Beyond Words Book Group.

The club helps adults with learning disabilities, and the group meets once a month to read books from the Beyond Words series. The celebration took place at the library in Church Road last week.

The series tells stories in pictures to help people with learning disabilities and communication difficulties explore and understand their own experiences.

The story is told by the group members looking at the pictures and describing and discussing what they see, so no pre-reading is required like other book clubs.

Book group members are encouraged to borrow the books to explore them further.

Certificates were awarded to the group, and members shared cake and refreshments.
