Striker Lock­yer sees red in friendly de­feat

Gary Lock­yer was sent off in Lydd Town’s 3-0 friendly de­feat at Erith Town on Satur­day.

They were forced to play all but the open­ing 28 min­utes with 10 men af­ter the striker was dis­missed for dis­sent.

Lydd beat Hawkinge 4-0 last Thurs­day and en­ter­tain Deal Town on Satur­day (3pm).

The Lind­sey Field club start the South­ern Coun­ties East League, Divi­sion 1 sea­son with two home games, against Lewisham Bor­ough (Au­gust 5) and Holmes­dale (Au­gust 12).

Boss Liam Smith, now on crutches, re­cov­er­ing from a se­ri­ous ac­ci­dent at work, says en­try into the FA Vase for the first time is a ma­jor step­ping stone for the club.

Lydd travel to Com­bined Coun­ties League Chess­ing­ton & Hook United on Septem­ber 9 and Smith said: “It’s all down to the chair­man and com­mit­tee’s hard work. We didn’t know we were in un­til the draw came out.”

Lydd have signed mid­fielder Harry Carr on dual reg­is­tra­tion from neigh­bours Hythe.
