Another bad smell

Kentish Express Ashford & District - - News -

Ashford suffered a worst stench than Steve Salter now describes (“New attempt to suppress stench from sewage works”, July 20) in the late 1950s and early 1960s and over a much larger area.

The reason being that the sewage works was both ancient and inefficient, plus the fact that Ashford was home to a well known potato crisp manufacturer, the latter being located at the entrance to Cobbs Wood Industrial site. When both were in full flight you could not escape the smell, wherever you were in Ashford. History has a habit of repeating itself! John Holland Kingsnorth
