The double Olympic finalist, world championship silver medallist and Commonwealth Games champion, joined more than 60 runners in the county’s only event of its kind.

Set up with Sport England funding awarded to Ashford Leisure Trust through the SPORTA Move Your Move programme, it is designed to encourage more people to take part in physical activity. Great Run Local is held every Sunday, with free 2k and 5k runs available – that can be walked jogged or run, for all ages and abilities.

Those taking part on Sunday enjoyed birthday cake to mark the occasion.

Community development manager Peter Le Rossignol said: “We have seen some fantastic results from the participants some of whom have never run before but now do it on a weekly basis, benefiting from increased confidence and weight loss,”

Great Run Local starts at 9.30am, with parking available at Church Hill.
