WESLEY SHRUBSOLE’S ANGLING COLUMN

Kentish Express Ashford & District - - Sport -

Now the schools have closed for summer, dads out there have no excuse not to take your youngsters fishing. This is what Dover dad Aaron Terry did and as you can see, right, from the beaming smile, his son Josh is one proud little angler with his bass. This is the way to start your journey into our wonderful sport, well done that lad! The Folkestone Anglers’ latest club match saw summer species high on the list with sole to nearly 2lb. Top rod was Andy Gainey (2.180kg) followed by Marytn Reid (2.010kg) and Jacob Gainey (1.880kg) – that included the sole. The Martin Walters Anglers took advantage of the deep water off Folkestone pier to find some good sport. Top rod was Hawkinge angler Shaun Carey with doggies and pout for 14lb 10oz. Paul Norris (7lb 12oz) was second, with Andy Gainey third (3lb). Back at the West parade, the Fountain Anglers found the going tough with Gary Chantler top rod (2.255kg). Mark Howard was second (615g) and Darren Plummer in third (560g). Sole, whiting and doggies were caught. At Cackle Hill Lakes, Biddenden, Martin Humphries landed a 25lb 8oz mirror carp. This day-ticket venue is well worth a visit.
