Course record earns title
Holly Standing carded a course record of 69 on her way to win the England Golf South Region Ladies’ title by three shots at Banstead Downs in Surrey. Four birdies and an eagle in the morning helped her to finish fourunder par and lead by four at the halfway stage. However, conditions deteriorated in the afternoon, with blustery winds and heavy showers making scoring difficult, Holly shooting 77 to finish on level par 146 in the 36-hole scratch event. She also won the handicap trophy. Twenty-year-old Holly is home from the United States where she is continuing her golf scholarship at Arkansas Tech University and is also studying psychology. She returns to the US in a fortnight’s time to complete her final year.
