Allinson secures golden double
Charing rower Freddie Allinson helped Great Britain to secure gold at a prestigious competition in Belgium at the weekend
The teenager, who has just completed his A-levels at King’s School, Canterbury, travelled to Hazewinkel, Belgium, to contest the 2017 Coupe de la Jeunesse.
Under-18 rowers from across England and Scotland took to the water in the two-day competition, which saw 12 European countries come together to battle it out over 13 events on each day.
GB topped the leaderboard in Poznan, Poland, last year and repeated the feat 12 months on, claiming eight golds to finish 59 points above Italy for the second straight year with 12 of the 13 crews claiming a medal.
Allinson secured two golds in the junior men’s coxless four, joining Matt Hardy and Theo Barlow of Molesey BC and Michael Dalton of St George’s College BC to claim victory on both Saturday and Sunday.
