Rubbish dumped in road
A country lane in Ashford had to be closed because of rubbish dumped by fly-tippers.
Cheeseman’s Green Lane was covered in debris, including bricks, plasterboard, rubbish bags, carpet discards and sheets on Tuesday morning.
The rubbish, which has been coned off, nearly covers the already narrow road, meaning cars are unable to pass through. Road closure signs have now been put in either end until the debris is removed.
Fed-up residents say that rubbish is constantly being dumped along the country road.
One woman, who asked not to be named, said: “It’s always happening but this time it’s been tipped all over the road, not just along the sides.
“It makes you want to camp out and catch whoever is doing it, it’s all over the place.”
Fly-tipping is a criminal offence punishable by a fine of up to £50,000 or 12 months’ imprisonment.
The road closure signs remained in place yesterday (Wednesday) morning but the rubbish had been removed.
