Parish gives parting gift to priest
A priest gave his final mass to worshippers before being given a send off for his retirement.
Father Joe Feeley has been a curate priest at St Teresa’s Catholic Church for the past 12 years.
He gave morning mass at the church in Maidstone Road, where more than 200 of the faithful were in attendance.
After the mass, there was a party in the church hall, where Father Joe enjoyed music performed by Jim MacDonald and the St Teresa’s Primary School choir, plenty of good food and Irish dancing.
Mary Daly, who was among the worshippers, said: “Father Joe will be remembered fondly by everyone and by his kind words and compassion.
“He has left a living legacy and helped children prepare for confirmation over the last 12 years. They will have fond memories to carry with them into adulthood and parenthood, and will remember the faith and kindness he demonstrated.”
Father Joe was presented with a retirement cheque for £3,600 from donations from the parish.
He said he was overwhelmed by people’s generosity and would step in to give an occasional mass if the church was ever short of a Sunday priest.
