Call for ragstone

Kentish Express Ashford & District - - Points Of View -

I cannot but wholeheartedly agree with Ralph Carpenter’s letter ‘Ragstone would be good for new homes’.

As a fellow resident of Chilmington Green living in another house with ragstone walls, I agree it is an ideal material to maintain the identity of the hamlet. Indeed Gallagher’s, the quarriers of the material, are already working on site. Coleman’s Kitchen Wood, on the edge of this large development – and which is being carefully protected – has itself grown on top of an historic ragstone quarry.

This is exactly the sort of exercise we need to be sure the development is not just another vast set of little boxes. Something many of us have been striving to ensure for the last decade or so. Ian Wolverson Chilmington Green, Great Chart
