Tenterden’s Benn Barham teams up with fellow county golfer Max Brackley in the Golfbreaks.com PGA Fourball Championship final next week. A £33,000 prize fund is on offer at Whittlebury Park in Northamptonshire starting on Wednesday. The Pentland group director of golf together with Brackley, from Manston Golf Centre, produced an impressive qualifying round with a 10-under-par round of 60 at Surbiton last month. They were beaten only by Sussex pair Paul Nessling and Colton Davies, from Cooden Beach near Bexhill, who shot 59. Barham and Brackley have become good friends through playing on the PGA circuit. Barham said: “It’s the first time myself and Max have played in this competition before and he caddied for me at Tour School.”
Bel Wardle triumphed at gale force Littlestone last week, winning the English Girls Championship by seven shots. Heavy rain and 45 mph winds made life difficult for all the players, with the final round abandoned due to the conditions. The 17-year-old England international from Prestbury in Cheshire shot a one-under 72 in the third round, following rounds of 69 and 71 to finish sevenunder-par, finishing ahead of runner-up Martha Lewis (St George’s Hill) on level par, with Megan Dennis (Woburn) third on three-over.
