A partnership between a waste management company and grocery and food supply firm has been recognised at a national awards ceremony.

Brakes Group, from Ashford, was listed as a finalist alongside ACM Environmental at the National Recycling Awards in the Business Partnership of the Year category.

ACM provides recycling facilities across all 56 Brakes’ sites throughout the country, with the objective of cutting the amount of waste going to landfill to zero.

Brakes indirect goods and services manager, Steve Webster, said the deal with ACM has boosted the company’s environmental performance.

He said: “We have eliminated the use of landfill and our impact on the environment while significantly reducing our costs.

“ACM is invaluable in helping us manage disposal as well as monitoring our environmental statistics and carbon calculator across all our sites.”

Brakes needs to deal with some 14,000 tonnes of waste from its sites, and ACM has been working with the company for 11 years.
