Find out how you can help those in need
Shoppers can learn more about the Ashford and Tenterden Samaritans in County Square on Saturday.
The charity will set up a stall in the shopping centre from 10am to 5pm which anyone interested in becoming a volunteer or finding out about the work of Samaritans is invited to visit.
Sam, the Samaritan rabbit mascot, is expected to make an appearance.
The charity’s Cliff Rance said: “The local branch is part of the national Samaritans who aim to provide a listening service 24 hours a day every day of the year for people in need of emotional support.
“Callers don’t need to be feeling suicidal to call, just unable to cope with life.
“More volunteers are always needed, both listening volunteers and support volunteers and applications are welcomed regardless of sex, religion or ethnic origin.
“Volunteers get training in effective listening and in the sort of calls to expect and how best to respond.”
