Train­ing pays off with nine PBs

Ash­ford AC ath­letes were out in force for the 10k at the week­end.

The cold and slip­pery con­di­tions were par­tic­u­larly chal­leng­ing,with the run­ners up against sleet and strong winds.

How­ever, the club have been train­ing hard over the win­ter tar­get­ing this race and their prepa­ra­tion paid off with nine of the 10 ath­letes achiev­ing per­sonal bests.

Of the 567 fin­ish­ers, Ash­ford AC had seven ath­letes in the top 25.

The team were led by Mar­shall Smith (un­der-20) who fin­ished an im­pres­sive Ash­ford AC run­ners at the Ash­ford 10k sixth over­all (33min 34sec) in a strong field made up of all age groups.

Gerard O’Sul­li­van who fin­ished 21st over­all (38.05) was first in the over-50s veter­ans cat­e­gory.

Ash­ford also fielded a five-strong team of un­der 17-year-old ath­letes for the gru­elling race.
