We love it – even our neighbours are perfect...

A cool minimalist design and a zero maintenance garden will make one Bearsted house very hard to leave. Homes & Living took a look.

IT project manager Simon Crowhurst knows exactly why homes at his tiny and exclusive cul-de-sac in Bearsted rarely come up for sale.

He bought his corner plot detached home there 16 years ago and has never regretted a thing.

He says: “We bought the house ‘off-plan’ back in 1999, watched it being built and have lived here ever since.

“We had looked at so many houses and nothing really met our criteria. We really liked the idea of the Bearsted village life but needed to be close enough to London and major transport links so when we spotted the brochure for this house, it looked perfect. We couldn’t believe it once we moved in, it was even better than expected

“Being a tiny, but spacious cul-de-sac, Yeoman Park definitely has the feel of exclusivity and we are surrounded by the most perfect neighbours. In fact our summer street parties have become an annual and eagerly anticipated event.

“Inside we like to keep the house painted totally white and focus the decoration on statement pieces of furniture or artefacts from our travels.

“When we moved in the garden was just a large rectangle of mud, so having a love of both plants and design, I set about designing it to ensure we got the best from its position and also to reflect our love of tropical places and outdoor living. Because of our busy lifestyles, I also wanted to make it as maintenance free as possible.”

With the house now on the market, buyers will find a spacious entrance hall with access to the main reception room and kitchen, along with stairs to the first floor accommodation Address: Yeoman Park, Bearsted, Maidstone Price: £575,000 to £585,000 Agent: Simon Miller & Company and ground floor cloakroom. The main reception room has a stunning feature fireplace with real flame gas fire and double doors which lead through to a separate dining room which overlooks the garden and has French windows leading on to the patio.

The kitchen is well appointed and has an integral gas hob and double oven, a contemporary styled breakfast bar and central island which adds to the functionality of the room.

There is also the added benefit of a separate fully fitted utility room. At the back of the house is another reception room which has French windows leading out to the garden and offers the possibility of being a separate snug, family room or large study.

The ground floor also has direct access to the integral garage which has space for two cars and a range of fitted storage cupboards.

On the first floor are four double bedrooms. The master bedroom has double built-in wardrobes and an en suite and the family bathroom has a bath and separate shower cubicle. “The big draws for us were the double garage, four double bedrooms, all with built-in wardrobes, the massive galleried landing, the enviable corner position and of course, the location.

“We have replaced all of the original wooden windows and doors with the latest uPVC double glazed windows and French doors. This has made such a difference – no draughts and it is absolutely silent in the house! We have also replaced all the soffits, fascias and guttering with uPVC which now means the house is Mote Park basically maintenance free.

“Being tucked away in the corner of Yeoman Park means we are in an incredibly quiet and secluded position. It also means we have plenty of private parking with a double garage and room for at least five additional cars on our driveway.

“The rooms are very spacious for a four-bedroom house and incredibly light and airy. Its position means it is not overlooked and has wonderful views from most rooms. The garden is spectacular and we practically live in it during the summer.

“It’s only a short distance to Bearsted station where there is a regular service to Maidstone, London and Canterbury. There are supermarkets, banks, a post office, medical centre, pubs and a plethora of shops all within a short walk.

“Mote Park and Bearsted Woodland Trust are both only a few minutes walk away, whilst the beauty of Leeds Castle, the Pilgrims Way and the North Downs Way are only a 10-minute bike ride away. We are so lucky having such amazing scenery on our doorstep.”
