Deadwood still alive

Deadwood is one of those brilliant TV shows that didn’t last an awfully long time and since the western series was cancelled in 2006, rumours about a film have tumbled around.

But now news has come out that one is gearing up to enter production. Work won’t start until next autumn, but what’s another year to people who have been waiting 11 years? Deadwood ran on HBO, and that network’s president of programming, Casey Bloys, said this about the project: “The one thing I was concerned about is, I wanted a script that would stand on its own. That if you were a Deadwood fan, it would make you happy and if you had never watched Deadwood, you would still enjoy it... I think it’s a terrific script.”

Now, HBO hasn’t officially given the project the green-light yet, so lots could still happen. But maybe they’re just living the gimmick. As Deadwood’s Al Swearengen said: “Announcing your plans is a good way to hear God laugh.”
