Pop-up skate-park proves a hit with young villagers
Keen skateboarders showcased their moves at a special open day in Bridge on Saturday.
Organisers received a grant from the city council to put on the event at the village’s recreation ground.
Organiser Gail Hubbard, from Bekesbourne with Patrixbourne parish council, said: “It was well attended – there was a good mix of children in their earlier teens to younger ones.
“The idea came from a boy who came to a parish meeting and asked if we could build a skate park in Bekesbourne. We said, ‘why don’t we put on a skate-park day where we could join forces with Bridge and that would give us a bigger pool of children?’”
The city council provided a grant of £1,450 to fund the day. Organisers laid on teas and coffees, with a tuck shop on offer for children.
Mrs Hubbard added: “It was a success. We wouldn’t rule out doing it again, but it’s not something we could probably afford every year.
“It’s nice to join with Bridge. We do it on quite a few events because all the children from Bekesbourne go to Bridge school and there are lots of familiar faces.
“I was delighted because it would have been my worst nightmare if no children came along.”
