CANTERBURY REJECT APPROACHES FROM KENT CLUBS FOR DEFENDER NZUZI

-

Canterbury City have rejected two approaches for defender Patrick Nzuzi. The former Democratic Republic of Congo under-21 international who started his career at Newcastle United is under contract with Canterbury while continuing his studies at university. Boss Ben Smith (pictured) wouldn’t confirm the identity of the two Kent clubs chasing Nzuzi but insists he is in no hurry to lose him. He said: “We would never stand in anyone’s way if there is an opportunity to better themselves. “Patrick would get trials at a lot of league clubs and would have a great chance of getting his foot in the door at that level.” Meanwhile, Smith has confirmed that Danny Lawrence will be City’s captain this season. Lawrence is another player to attract interest from teams at a higher level but Smith said: “Danny is a loyal boy and staying at the club. He is a player who makes us tick.” City lost 2-1 at Ramsgate in their latest pre-season friendly on Tuesday night. Chris Webber put City ahead, only for the Rams to snatch victory with a late penalty They travel to Faversham Strike Force tonight (Thursday) before hosting fellow Kent County league side Kennington at Ashford on Saturday (3pm).
