Struggling Bay leak seven goals

Ryman League

-

Herne Bay’s gloom deepened with a 7-0 hammering at Hastings on Tuesday night, their eighth defeat in nine games in Ryman League Division 1 South.

Former Bay man Frannie Collin laid on the opener for Harry Stannard after just 36 seconds and a similar goal made it 2-0 four minutes later.

It was 3-0 inside 20 minutes as Matt Bodkin charged down a clearance allowing Collin to race clear and score.

Kane Phillip blasted over at the other end soon after, while Gary Sayer cut inside but shot tamely at Lenny Pidgeley.

Collin was replaced by Bright Temba who broke through the middle and teed up Barry Cogan who scuffed his shot, while Stannard was denied his hat-trick by teenage Bay keeper Toby Wood, in for Jack Delo.

Cogan’s header sent Temba clear, but James Turner got back to clear on the line, though United made it four two minutes before the break when Stephen Butcher’s cross found Jack Harris to head home.

Wood denied Harris after the interval after a poor backpass sent him clear but Richard Davies made it five on 55 minutes from a corner.

Temba got the sixth after backheeling Bodkin’s low cross. Bodkin spurned the chance of a goal when he skied a penalty after Cruttwell was blocked.

Sam Cole finished the scoring with a fierce strike late on as Bay remain mired in the bottom three.

On Saturday, Bay lost 3-2 at basement-boys Godalming who had taken previously just one point from their first 11 games.

Godalming took the lead on 15 minutes when a high cross was fumbled by Delo with the ball falling to Jake Kempton to tap in from six yards.

The hosts continued to push forward and chances fell to Will Hutton and Luke Perkins but neither could find the target.

Bay could not find a way to get behind the Godalming defence until the half-hour when James Turner went on a solo run but his shot was tipped over by Oneal Garnes and from the resultant corner Connor Sanders blazed over.

Bay did level seven minutes before half-time when Kane Phillip freed Stuart Zanone who ran through and lobbed the advancing Garnes but within two minutes Godalming retook the lead after some sloppy defending with Jack Warburton turning in from five yards.

Bay started the second half better but still couldn’t find a way through and on 56 minutes a Danny Walder corner hit the back post and was cleared.

A minute later, however, Kane Phillip sent in a great cross that Mark Lovell dived to head past Garnes to equalise.

Parity lasted just 10 minutes as Godalming grabbed the winner when a cross from Warburton saw Chris Musgrave left unmarked to head home.

Faversham’s league form took a hit as they failed to score in back-to-back games.

Town went down 1-0 at Ramsgate on Tuesday night.

Town had the better of the opening half and looked set to go on and claim the points but a defensive error paved the way for the hosts to come out on top at Southwood.

Ryan Cooper headed wide from a Kieron Campbell cor- ner before Sam Bewick latched onto a Josh Stanford pass, only for his lob over the onrushing keeper to go narrowly wide.

Bewick turned provider for Stanford to cut inside but he saw a shot blocked with Renford Tenyue’s follow-up also blocked before he lashed the rebound owner.

George Monger also had a shot charged-down, while George Crimmen fired over from a corner at the other end.

Tenyue’s looping header from a Monger cross dropped onto the bar while Stanford sent a free-kick straight at the keeper.

The hosts improved after the break and Ben Bridle-card made a magnificent save from a curling effort to keep the score level but the keeper was beaten just before the hour when his goalkick went straight out and the Rams took a quick throw behind the defence who were caught napping allowing Aaron Millbank to fire into the corner.

Town pushed forward but could not create any clear cut chances with Cooper unable to turn in a late Tenyue cross.

The Lilywhites had to settle for a point from a stalemate at Corinthian Casuals on Saturday. The sides cancelled each other out in the first half with Bridle-card making a diving save to keep out a deflected cross and Bewick dragging a shot wide just before half-time.

After the break, Shaun Okojie fired wide and David Hodges’ too-poke missed the target, while Josh Uzun lashed straight at Bridle-card and Okojie saw a tap-in ruled out for offside.

At the other end Bola Dawodu couldn’t deflect in a Tenyue cross and Bewick’s 25-yarder was straight at the keeper as neither side could find a breakthrough.
