Community spirit knocked back by council’s safety fears
Council health and safety chiefs have banned residents from picking up litter in a Canterbury village – because some roads don’t have pavements.
The authority has dismissed pleas from locals who want to clean rubbish near the 30mph streets, claiming it is “too dangerous”. The decision was branded “ridiculous” by organiser Charlie Porter, right, who has been urged by supporters to defy the ban.
